Forced Return

Forced Return (FR) is used for an aircraft that is airborne and needs to land back at the departure airport for some reason. 


To use FR and send out relevant messages:

  1. Right click the flight leg.
  2. Select the Irregular FR icon.  
  3. A new dialogue opens.
    The dialogue has the following information:
    Field
    Description
    AirlineThe prefix of the returned leg. It cannot be changed.
    Flight NumberThe number of the returned leg. It cannot be changed. 
    SuffixSelect the suffix to be added to the returned leg. This field is optional.
    Call SignSelect the callsign to be added to the returned leg. This field is optional.
    TouchdownThis is the date and time for touchdown of the returned leg.  
    Note: Check the Estimated checkbox to set this time as estimated.
    Block OnThis is the date and time for the block-on event of the returned leg.
    Note: Check the Estimated checkbox to set this time as estimated.
    Forced Return ReasonThis part of the dialogue will only be visible if the setting in setup ShowDelayReasonForArrival is set to true. Reasons for forced return (if defined in the reasons table) will be visible for selection.
    CommentAdd a comment for the forced return.
    Create Continuing FlightOptions are check or not checked:
    • Checked: Will create a continuation flight. 
    • Not checked: No continuation flight is created and this field of this dialogue will not be visible.
    DateThis option is available for continuation of a flight. This is the date of the continuation flight. Note: Defaults to the original date of operation.
    Departure StationThis option is available for continuation of a flight. This is the original departure station. It cannot be changed.
    ETDThis option is available for continuation of a flight. This is the estimated time of departure of the continuation flight. 
    Note: the STD will default to the original flight departure time and date. 
    ArrivalThis option is available for continuation of a flight. This is the original arrival station. It cannot be changed. 
    STCThis option is available for continuation of a flight. This is the Service Type code of the original flight. 
    Delay ReasonThis option is available for continuation of a flight. One delay reason for the estimated time of departure of the continuation flight. 
    Delay TimeThis option is available for continuation of a flight. This is the amount of delay. Click the Recalc. Times icon to compute this value when adjusting the ETD.
     
  4. Click the NEXT button. Messages will generate for the related events and display on the screen for any user action.  
  5. After clicking the SAVE button, the puck will show as follows on the Gantt.

  6. The returned leg will show in green (or equivalent color for a completed leg as defined in “Styles”). The continuation leg will show in yellow, as a result of the ETD. If you do not define an ETD, the continuation leg will overlap with the returned leg.
