Editing a pairing

To edit a pairing, you should right-click the pairing in the block Gantt and choose the Edit button. This opens the editing menu.


 

The editing dialogue has sections aimed at updating the pairing properties or the activities and properties of these activities contained in the pairing. 

 


Field descriptions 


  • Name: This is the name of the pairing, which can be changed if the setting IsPairingNameEditable is set to true in Setup. Only one pairing with a given name can exist per day. The name is created by default selecting the selected pairing naming convention. Please refer to the Pairing Naming Convention article for more details.
  • Base: This is the defined pairing base. If you change the pairing base, also remember to connect the activities within the pairing to avoid a base-to-base conflict.
  • Qual: Based on the selected activities within the pairings, the qualification will be automatically picked; however, if you are creating ground pairings, you will need to define the qualification by changing this parameter.
  • Complements: The complement is derived from the first activity which is added to the pairing. You may need to change the complement of a pairing when creating ground pairings or if you need to create pairings for different crew types or ranks. (i.e., separate pairing and cabin crew pairings). Note that when crew is assigned to a pairing, the complement cannot be changed. 
  • Roster Block Class: This is where you can add Roster Block Classes to a pairing.
  • Unpublished in Open Time: You can check this box if you do not want to have a pairing available in Open Time for pickup. Note that this field is only available when the parameter UseCrewInitiatedRosterChanges is set to true in Setup.
  • Comment: If needed, you can add a comment to the pairing. This field is only available when the parameter UseCrewInitiatedRosterChanges is set to true in Setup.
  • Time Mode: Time mode used in the dialogue. The available options are: “UTC”, “Local Time”, and “Station”. When selecting the option “Station”, you need to provide the station code to be used as a reference. The default time mode for this dialogue is defined in your Preferences setting Preferred TimeMode.
  • Violations: In this section, you will see all the legality violations, if any, for the open pairing. If the list of violations becomes too long, a vertical scrollbar for the sections will be automatically enabled.

If you modify the pairing, please click the button “Recalculate Legality” on the right side of the dialogue. Values and violations will only be recalculated when clicking this button.

Calculators: It is possible to show some summary calculators for the pairing in this dialogue. The calculators shown in this summary as defined in Setup / PairingModificationLegalityLabels. As with violations, you need to click the button “Recalculate Legality” to get new values after editing the pairing.

 

Pairing activities

 

To collapse or expand the pairing activities section of the dialogue, click the chevron to the left of “Activities” under Calculators.


 

Adding or removing Roster Designators


Select the pairing activities by clicking the checkbox to the left of each line, or the checkbox on the header of this column to mark all pairing activities. With the activities marked, select one or more roster designators from the dropdown list, and click the ADD button. To remove, select the activities to be affected and select the roster designator to be removed from the activities then click the button remove. After each of these actions, the details of the activities will be refreshed with the new information. Once you are ready with this modification, click Apply to close the dialogue and apply the changes. Finally, you will need to save the changes by clicking the SAVE button on the top of the Gantt.

Adding or removing Legal Exceptions

 

Select the pairing activities by clicking on the check box to the left of each line, or the check box on the header of this column to mark all pairing activities.

With the activities marked, select one or more legal exceptions from the dropdown list, and click the ADD button. To remove, select the activities to be affected and select the legal exceptions to be removed from the activities. Then click the button remove. After each of these actions, the details of the activities will be refreshed with the new information. Once you are ready with this modification click “Apply” to close the dialogue and apply the changes. Finally, you will need to save the changes by clicking on the “Save” button on the top of the Gantt.

 

Modifying a single pairing activity

 

It is also possible to modify some properties at the individual pairing activity. To do so, click the blue button on the right of the pairing activity.



They will change the line to edit mode and those values which are editable will be possible to edit, being shown in a darker gray. Fields that can be changed for a flight activity are Check In (CI), Check Out (CO), Roster Designator (RD), Legal Exception (LE). 

 

 

In the case of a reference activity, you can also change the start and end dates and times. CI and CI will be only editable for duty-type reference activities.

 

 

In the case of a transport activity where the flight details need to be set according to the definitions of the reference activity, it will be also possible to define the deadhead flight number details.

Once you have changed the details, click the green checkmark to apply the changes. Click the red cross to cancel the changes.


Removing a pairing activity


To remove a pairing activity, click the red button to the right of the activity. 



Adding a pairing activity


It is also possible to add flight and reference activities to the pairing within the same edit dialogue. For this, you need to expand the open legs, reference activities panel, by clicking the black chevron in the upper right corner of the dialogue.

This panel is divided into two sections. The upper half allows you to select a reference activity from the dropdown list. Once you have selected the reference activity, select if you want to place the activity before or after the pairing activity you have marked in the pairing activity grid. With that defined, click add. The selected activity will be placed in the pairing activity grid. You can then return to the grid to edit the pairing activity properties.

The lower half of the paneer will show all the open segments for the period. The open segments are presented as follows:

  • CODE: Flight number of the open segment.
  • VALID FROM: Date and start time of the open segment.
  • DEP: Departure station.
  • ARR: Arrival station.
  • VALID TO: Arrival date and time of the open segment.
  • OPEN POSITIONS: Positions in the leg missing to be contained in any pairing.
  • AC TYPE: Operated aircraft type of the open segment.

 

At the top of the list, you have the option to filter your open segment list by Flight Number, Departure station, Arrival station, Valid From, Valid To, and Aircraft Type. You can combine options but only use one value per type. Once you have defined your filter, click the APPLY button.

To select a leg, click the checkbox to the left of the leg then click ADD. This will be added within the pairing activity grid in the order based on the operating times.


Solving conflicts

If there are any continuity conflicts between the pairing, this tool can be used to find a solution. This solution will look for potential flights from the own schedule or flights available in the dataservice. There are different settings available for the search:

  • Max Connections: Maximum number of connections that can be performed to solve the conflict.
  • Max Length: Maximum length from conflict start to conflict end.
  • Min Connection Time: minimum time to connect from where the conflict starts (end of the last activity) and the possible connecting flight starts.
  • Day Offset: Maximum number of days to look forward for a connecting flight or activity.
  • Airline: Airline to look for. (Valid in the case there is a known itinerary in the dataserve).

 

Once the search parameters have been set, click the REFRESH button.  For each conflict within the pairing, you will get a dropdown list with possible solutions. The conflict will be described on top of each of the dropdown lists. The default option is not to do anything. You will then be presented with a list of possible legs that may fit the selected constraints.  Together with the flight all transport type reference activities will be listed. If you select one of these, you will have to go back to the grid and adjust the activity accordingly. Select one activity and click on ADD.

Click the APPLY button to close and apply the changes. Do not forget to SAVE all the changes.
